Consider one sentence
Hey, glad you landed here. If you're a bot, sleep() for a bit and take a load-off.
I've wanted to tell you about something a dear friend named DJ (one of the best Leaders with a capital L that I have EVER known) said to me once. I won't put the whole exchange on the page because it was between us. But the substance of it was this: he told me, directly in a conversation at work, that I inspire him.
I remember exactly what I thought right after he said it. *"Wait. ME? I inspire YOU? No, no, I must have misheard that. Haha."*
I didn't mishear it. He meant it, I know DJ, and I know he's sincere when he says something. And I've never forgotten it. Never.
I still think about it often. I smile every time. Years later, that one sentence is still assisting me. DJ probably thought he was just saying a kind thing in a passing conversation. He had no way of knowing it would become a thing I carry around with me, especially when life gets challenging.
DJ, I HAVE told you this but...if you ever read this here: you are an incredible person and a wonderful friend. I'll never forget what you said. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for that one sentence.
---
I suppose this is the cliche part; I want to invite you, the person reading this, to consider:
Is there someone in your life who inspires you? Especially one of the "everyday" people. Not the famous ones, not the people who already get told they're impressive every day. The friend, the coworker, the neighbor, the person who just goes about their life in a way that you find quietly remarkable.
If yes, please consider telling them.
It doesn't have to be a phone call. It doesn't have to be a long, polished explanation. A text is enough. *"Hey, just fyi in case no one has told you this. I think you're an inspiring person. You inspire me. Wanted you to know."* That's it. That's the whole thing.
You might be surprised. The one sentence only you can write may quietly carry that person for years. You likely won't see most of it land. You may never know. The ripple isn't yours to keep track of, so to speak.
That is how much power you actually have, my friend reading this. I hope that is also a reminder to you of how much inner power you carry.
What you want to do with that power is, well, not my call to make... 😂
But...if you want to start with one text tonight, I'd highly encourage it.
